Mozilla ha rilasciato la versione alpha 8 del nuovo browser, chiamato al momento Gran Paradiso,
per scopi di test.
Questa release è rivolta principalmente agli sviluppatori di applicazioni web ed alla comunità
di testing di Mozilla.
Tuttavia chiunque può provarla (anche se viene sconsigliata se non in caso di prova) sul
proprio pc.
I cambiamenti inclusi in questa versione alpha 8 (che poi serviranno per la realizzazione del
browser Firefox 3) sono in sintesi:
- implemento e miglioramento dell'interfaccia utente
- maggiore protezione dal malware
- miglior supporto ai protocolli del web
- tutti gli add-ons di Firefox usano un sistema di auto aggiornamento più sicuro
- Il browser si chiude correttamente anche se windows è in fase di spegnimento o di riavvio
- altre modifiche tecniche (sotto in dettaglio in inglese)
Un assaggio del lavoro di Mozilla, che sta preparando per i suoi milioni di utenti in tutto al
mondo un browser sicuro, stabile, funzionale, per affermare con sempre maggior forza che il
futuro è Firefox e non Internet Explorer.

- Basic and unpolished UI for indicating richer website identity information has been added
- Support for web-based protocol handlers, though it doesn’t work in all situations (see bug 394483).
- A new Applications preference panel for configuring handlers for various content types (see bug 377784) has replaced the Download Actions dialog and the Feeds preference panel
- All Firefox add-ons must now use a secure method for auto-updating (see bug 378216 and this guide for more details)
- Firefox now quits properly (instead of just being killed) when Windows is shut down or restarted (see bug 333907)
- Added support for document.elementFromPoint method (see bug 199692)
- DOMWillOpenModalDialog events are no longer fired by the nsIPrompt implementation (see bug 391100)
- TYPE_PLUGIN has been removed from the Extension Manager code (see bug 392140)
