Oggi, intervisto Markus Kern , autore del famoso software per il p2p Kceasy, candidato a sostituire il famoso kazaa lite secondo il mio modesto parere. Bodom = Kceasy è il figlio di Gift il popolare p2p per Linux. Quando è nato K? E perchè?

M. Kern = Ho iniziato a lavorare su Kceasy all’inizio del 2002 xchè praticamente non esisteva altro che potesse essere utilizzato su Windows.

Bodom = Cosa significa Kceasy?

M. Kern = Non ha nessun significato. Non sapevo come chiamare agli inizi. E così ho semplicemente usato un vecchio programma di Dos che ha creato un nome a caso.

Bodom = Allora, Kceasy è la versione 0.14.rc2(22 agosto del 2004).Quando uscirà la nuova versione piu’ o meno?

M. Kern = In realtà sta per arrivare molto presto. Tutto dipende dalla velocità con la quale riuscirò a definire I restanti bugs ma la versione definitiva 0.14 potrebbe
uscire il prossimo week-end.

Bodom = Secondo me Kceasy è il software migliore per il peer to peer.
Quali sono le differenze più importanti tra Kceasy e gli altri software P2P?

M. Kern = In realtà sono tutti molto simili.Forse la differenza più ovvia è che Kceasy ha diversi KCE e può girare anche su altre macchine.

Bodom = Perchè preferire Kceasy? Quali sono I vantaggi?

M. kern = Non voglio obbligare la gente ad utilizzare il mio software. E' gratuito, a disposizione di chiunque lo voglia usare, se trovate in circolazione qualcosa di meglio nessun problema.

Bodom = Kceasy si connette alla rete(fasttrack,gnutella,gift). Riesce a connettersi alla rete ed2k oppure bittorrent?

M. Kern = Kceasy utilizza Gift e quindi può connettersi a qualsiasi supporto gift.
Di solito non sono inclusi ed2k o bittorrent.Io continuo a matenere il Fasttrack plug-in per Gift ma non ho tempo di iniziare dei nuovi plug-in per la rete. Se qualcun'altro
creasse dei buoni plug-in per Gift li aggiungerei naturalmente a Kceasy

Bodom = Quante persone lavorano al progetto K? Chi sono e cosa stanno facendo?

M. Kern = Ci sono solo io che lavoro al progetto. Sono io che gestisco il progetto e che scrivo il codice. Del resto non c’è molto lavoro da fare.Alcuni hanno scritto della documentazione disponibile su Kceasy.com

Bodom = Kceasy è un progetto opensource.Perchè hai scelto la formula opensource?

M. Kern = Questa è una bella domanda, perchè’ si era arrivati al punto di portare la gente a fare gli hackers come ad esempio Safe Share, in modo che altri possono sviluppare il progetto se io mi stancherò di svilupparlo.

Bodom = Sei soddisfatto della popolarita’ dei tuoi softwares:

M. Kern = Come ho detto prima non è che mi interessi poi così tanto.
Al momento ci sono circa 18.000 persone che stanno usando Kceasy quotidinamente e non è male considerando che è stato un progetto iniziato per uso personale.

Bodom = Vuoi dire qualche altra cosa al pubblico italiano?

M. Kern = Beh, cosa posso dire , importante è che verrà inserita una traduzione in italiano nella versione. Che sta per uscire

M. Kern = You're welcome. My answers are below.

Bodom = Kceasy is the gift's son the popular peer to peer for linux. When was kceasy born? Why?

M. Kern = I started KCeasy at the beginning of 2002 because there was no other usable Windows front end for giFT at the time. It didn't include giFT originally and you had to run giFT on a separate Linux box and connect KCeasy to it. Since then I have rewritten KCeasy two times and it grew well past my personal needs in functionality from all the user input I get.

Bodom = What does kceasy mean?

M. Kern = It doesn't mean anything. I didn't know what to name my front end for giFT when I started so I simply used an old DOS program to create a random name.

Bodom = Now, Kceasy is to the 0.14-rc2 released [2004-08-22]? when do the stable version out ? :) more or less (+ or -)

Very soon actually. Depending on how fast I can fix the remaining bugs the final 0.14 version may be out by next weekend.

Bodom = In my opinion, Kceasy is the best software for peer to peer. What are the more important differences between kceasy and other P2P software?

M. Kern = They are very similar really. The most obvious difference is probably that KCeasy connects to multiple networks. This gives the user an alternative if a single network doesn't provide a rare file.
I also like the possibility to run giFT on another machine and have multiple KCeasy clients use it. I use this configuration myself. giFT runs on a Linux box and KCeasy on Windows workstations.

Bodom = Why choise kceasy? What are the advantages?

M. Kern = I gave some reasons in the previous question but I don't really try to make people use my software. It's there for free, use it if you want. If you find something better I won't blame you :)

Bodom = kceasy can connect to the net (fasttrack, gnutella, gift)... Can it cannect to net ed2k or bittorrent?

M. Kern = KCeasy uses giFT so it can connect to any networks giFT supports.
Currently that does not include ed2k or bittorrent. I still maintain the FastTrack plugin for giFT but don't have the time to start any new network plugins. If other people create good plugins for giFT I will add them to KCeasy of course.

Bodom = How many people work to kceasy project? Who are? What are the doing?

M. Kern = Just me. I manage the project and write code. There is not much else to do. Some other people have written documentation available at kceasy.com and help out on the forum boards for which I am very grateful since I hate writing documentation. All the translations to other languages have also been provided by other people.

Bodom = Kceasy is a project open source. Why do you choise the open source?

M. Kern = A good question. So far it has only led to people making hacks like Safe-Share and selling them to gullible users. But I hope that the code will be of benefit to someone in the future and that other people will be able to continue working on it should I decide to stop developing it myself.

Bodom = Are you happy for the popolarity of yours software?

M. Kern = As I said above I doesn't really matter to me. Currently there are about 18,000 people using KCeasy daily which isn't all to bad for something that started out as a mere personal hack :)

Bodom = Any other think for your italian pubblic?

M. Kern = What can I say. We will even have an Italian translation in the upcoming release so try it out :)
